FAQ

  • Studio 33 is named after US Route 33, the highway along which Buckhannon is located! Our team is passionate about bringing quality dance education and opportunities right here to our hometown, and we wanted the name of our studio to reflect that.

  • We are located at 166 Wood Street in Buckhannon, in the old KAR Services garage. It still looks like a garage, so don’t let that throw you! Once you walk in the front door, you’ll go down the hallway past the office and up the steps. Once in the main part of the building, the studio doors are the double doors to your left. We share the building with Mountain State Cheer Academy.

  • Our absolute youngest dancers are in our Twirl Tots class! This is a grownup and me style class for toddlers age 18 months to 3 years. All students in Twirl Tots must have a participating adult in class with them at all times. Our Teeny dancers are our youngest independent dancers. Dancers must turn 3 by January 1 of the current season to be old enough for teeny ballet or turn 3 by September 1 to be eligible for our teeny ballet & hippity hop combo class.

  • Yes, the registration fee is $50 for new students or $20 for returning students. This will be paid yearly at the start of the term. Each family will also be responsible for a $50 recital fee as well as the full cost of costumes. Most costumes run $50-$80, and we do apply a processing fee of $5 per costume. This processing fee goes to the studio to help with taxes and shipping costs, as well as organization, alterations, and administrative tasks related to costuming. Families will keep their costumes after the recital.

  • You can view our full dress code policy below, but students can wear anything that allows them to move comfortably and allows our instructors to see their lines. Students will also need to bring/wear appropriate dance shoes and have a water bottle. We do not allow food or beverages other than water on our dance floor.

  • Yes, absolutely! Each child is more than welcome to try classes at their level before committing to one or more classes. Trial classes are free for all new students! Reach out to us at 33dancecenter@gmail.com or through our “contact” page to schedule your free trial.

Financial Policies

All billing occurs monthly and is done automatically via Stripe. The dance season runs September-May with a showcase in early June, so nine payments will be collected. Parents/guardians may select to be billed on either the 1st or the 15th of each month.

We follow Upshur County school closings for weather. In the event that classes need to be canceled, for any reason, makeup classes will be made available. Refunds will not be issued for missed classes.

Dress Code

  • All Classes

Hair will need to be in a bun for ballet and should be pulled away from face and off the neck for all other dance classes. No jewelry should be worn with the exception of small stud earrings that cannot be removed. Warm-ups and layers are appropriate for the beginning of class. No clothing featuring profanity or obscene images.

  • Shoe Policy

Dance shoes come in a variety of colors, styles, and price points - ask your instructor before purchasing to help determine which is most appropriate for your dancer.

  • Hip Hop

Comfortable clothing that you can move in. No jeans, no skirts, no boots, no flip flops, no elevated shoes of any sort. Baggy clothing is acceptable. Pants below the knee are suggested. Hip Hop students will need to purchase our hip hop sneakers from the studio. We will place shoe orders at the beginning of each semester.

  • Twirl Tots, Teeny Ballet & Hippity Hop

Students may wear any comfortable dance attire they can easily move in. No pants or skirts that drag on the floor and no jeans. Twirl tots and teeny ballet students will need leather full-sole ballet shoes (we recommend these for little ones). Hippity Hop students will need slip-on jazz shoes (we recommend these for little ones). Shoes should match your dancer’s skin tone - no ballet pink. Adults participating in twirl tots should wear comfortable clothes and be prepared to move! Adults will need to be in dance shoes, bare feet, or socks.

  • Ballet, Jazz, Lyrical, Contemporary, TLC

Leotard (any color) and pink/black/skin-tone tights (skirts/shorts optional), OR any form fitting top with form fitting shorts or leggings. No clothing may be worn to obstruct the view of the body (i.e. baggy shirts/pants). All students should wear appropriate supportive undergarments.

Ballet: Students will need canvas split-sole ballet shoes that match their skin tone. We recommend the Capezio Hanami or So Danca Bliss styles.

Lyrical: Students will need leather half-sole “turner” style shoes that match their skin tone. We recommend the Capezio Turning Pointe 55s.

Jazz: Students will need slip-on leather split-sole jazz shoes. For performance, these may need to be either skin tone or black, depending on costuming. We recommend Balera or Capezio Slip-On Jazz Shoes.

    Contemporary: Bare feet.

TLC: Any shoe or bare feet.

  • Adult Classes

Adults are encouraged to wear clothing that allows for comfortable movement. Workout clothes with supportive undergarments are often a good choice. Form-fitting bottoms such as leggings, yoga pants, bike shorts, or tights (with a leotard or bike shorts) allow instructors to more easily see your lines. Shoes should correspond to the style of dance being taken.

*Every student is accepted for who they are. Our dress code is gender-neutral, and every dancer should wear what feels appropriate to them. The selected attire is to support every dancer’s safety and comfort.
